About Me
My name is Kacie and I am on the path to becoming a registered dental hygienist. I enjoy spending my free time gardening and playing with my 3 energetic corgis. I am the youngest member of my local garden club, attending meetings alongside my mother when I was 5. The ladies who started as my friends quickly became family. When I bought my home, my flowerbeds were filled with hand-me-down plants from the women of the club.
My first corgi, Winston, is a therapy dog, and we spend our time visiting the elderly in convalescent homes. It is very rewarding when their faces light up as Winston trots into the room and "dances" in front of everyone as they laugh out loud. People are often confused about his short little limbs saying, "Where are the rest of his legs?" Due to my class schedules, Winston and I have had to take a small break from our visits but still plan to make it to the local children's fair.
Like many little girls, I used to dream of becoming a veterinarian. I wanted to work and be surrounded by animals, but I feared I would bring every lost or sick dog home. When I was 15, my aunt who is a dentist in another state, would let me spend my summers with her working as a dental assistant and as I got older, I found happiness in working with people. I took a short break from oral health care as I worked as an instructional aid for children diagnosed with Autism. As I taught the children "typical" behaviors, they taught me how to be silly and not take life for granted. After 4 years with the children, I decided to move forward in my career and make the big jump to dental hygiene school!
I will be using this website to feature what I am learning in dental hygiene school, including mock cases and reviewing journal articles. Please look around as I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I have enjoyed writing it!
